![]() ![]() Some older versions of the program, which are no longer officially supported, do have all the features enabled, but these may cause problems. For example, you won't be able to import other audiobooks that you already have on your hard drive to the client. It's important to note that some of OpenAudible's features are not available with this free version of the program. Once you have linked your account, you'll be able to download all your audiobooks so they're stored locally. If you don't already have a user account, you can easily create a new one. The first thing you need to do to start using OpenAudible is to link your Audible account, otherwise some of its features won't work. With this app, you'll be able to easily listen to any audiobook. It's a work round so not ideal.OpenAudible is an open source program that lets you use Audible, Amazon's popular audiobook platform, easily on your Mac's desktop. I could manually add a copy of any individual Audiobooks to the Books app just to sync with my iPhone, then delete from Books after I've finished listening to those. I'm considering giving up on Books for managing Audiobooks and just managing them in the Finder instead. I use Adobe Audition for my work so I can use that but not everyone's going to have that option. There doesn't appear to be any method in Books to edit metadata if I buy an Audiobook that's not tagged properly.(I suppose Categories could be used for organisation too but I really just want folders and sub-folders.) In iTunes I had my Audiobooks organised in Playlist Folders with sub-folders whereas in Books, the only way to organise content is using Collections which doesn't support a multi-level hierarchy. This doesn't make sense because I have 1.1TB available storage capacity on my hard drive. Make some space, then go to the File menu in Books and choose “Move Audiobooks from iTunes". In my case, the import from iTunes Library fails every time, displaying an alert that reads Audiobooks can’t be moved right now. They can't be stored on an external drive any more and the new location is obviously not intended to be user-accessible. Along the way, I've found out that unlike iTunes, in Books there's no option to store Audiobooks anywhere other than the default location, which is the hard drive at ~/Library/Containers//Data/Documents/iBooks/Books/Audiobooks. I've contacted Apple for help but it's not resolved yet. I have 277.54GB of Audiobooks and after installing Catalina, I've unsuccessfully tried to import them from my iTunes Library into the Books app several times. This is a bit of a rant from someone in a similar (but not identical) situation… You can still change the media location in the new 'Music' app settings for music, but I don't see that option inside of Books.Įven if I select File > Move Audiobook from iTunes (which Apple suggest provided you have a iTunes Library File) it still tries to write the media directly to Macintosh hard drive even though they were never stored there in the 1st place as I've always offloaded my audiobooks on my external drive.ĭoes anybody have any ideas? I need my audiobooks back! With iTunes any imported media like Audiobooks, TV Shows, Movies etc would automatically organise itself neatly inside of iTunes even if it was stored on an external drive. I have over 200GB of audiobooks so I just don't have the space locally- hence why I wish to offload my audiobooks to my external hard drive but still manage my audiobooks through the Books app- just as I used to do with iTunes. When I import anything into Books it tries to write the files direct to my Macintosh drive.
